Kolkata, Feb. 9 -- Italy suffered an early blow on their ICC Men's T20 World Cup debut as captain Wayne Madsen was forced to leave the field after injuring his shoulder during their opening Group match against Scotland on Monday.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) website, Madsen fell awkwardly while attempting a diving stop in the field and was immediately taken off for treatment. Tournament officials later confirmed that the Italy skipper would take no further part in the match.

Earlier in the day, Madsen had won the toss and elected to field in the all-European contest at the Eden Gardens, marking Italy's first-ever appearance at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
