Kolkata, Feb. 7 -- The Calcutta High Court on Friday rejected an appeal of the West Bengal government, which sought death penalty to RG Kar Medical College and hospital rape and murder convict Sanjay Roy and accepted a similar plea from the CBI, court sources said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had opposed the state govt's appeal since it had carried out the entire probe and authorised to appeal against the order of the trial court which sentenced Roy to Life Imprisonment.
A Division bench of Justices Debangsu Basak and Md Shabbar Rashid rejected the State government's appeal which challenged the trial court order pronounced on January 20.
