Nagpur, Sept. 11 -- A Nagpur-based businessman was shot and robbed of around Rs 50 lakh by unidentified assailants near Kadbi Chowk in Nagpur vity of Maharashtra, police said today.

The victim, identified as Raju Dipani of Jaripatka, was intercepted by two motorcycle-borne men around 8 pm on Wednesday while he was returning from his office near No. 10 bridge. When he attempted to escape, the assailants opened fire, injuring him in the back, before fleeing with his bag containing cash.

Locals rushed Dipani to Max Hospital, where his condition is reported to be critical. Police later recovered three bullet casings from the spot.

Senior police officers and forensic teams visited the scene and launched a manhunt for the attackers.
