Chennai, March 20 -- A burglar, who attempted to flee with stolen jewellery after
attacking the cops, was shot at and nabbed by the police at Annamalainagar in the
Chidambaram Town in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
After stealing gold jewellery, cash and a laptop from a house in Chidambaram
Town, the burglar, Stephen, tried to escape when a police team, probing the case,
zeroed on him to arrest him after tracing his hide out.
When the police spotted him and tried to recover the stolen valuables, he attacked
them with a knife.
Police in an act of self-defence opened fire at him, causing injuries in his knee.
Stephen, against whom several cases were pending, was subsequently arrested
and admitted to a hospital for trea...
