Chandigarh, Feb. 17 -- After an 11-year gap, Punjab's iconic bullock cart races have officially resumed at the Kila Raipur Rural Olympics in Ludhiana. The event was formally inaugurated on Tuesday by Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian.
The return of this traditional sport follows a long suspension initiated by a Supreme Court order in 2014, which was eventually overturned after the Punjab government passed a bill in the Assembly to facilitate its revival.
The opening phase of the competition saw 28 bullock carts participating across seven distinct heats. The winners from today's events are scheduled to progress to the second round tomorrow.
