Thane, Dec. 27 -- In a landmark case of organ donation in Thane, the organs of a 38-year-old woman declared brain-dead have given a new lease of life to six patients. This is the first such multi-organ donation reported in the city, with organs transported to hospitals in Thane, Mumbai and Delhi.

The woman, a resident of Hazuri, was admitted to Mahavir Jain Hospital and Pratap Asher Cardiac Centre on December 19 following a brain haemorrhage. Despite treatment, she was declared brain-dead on December 25. After doctors counselled the family on organ donation, the relatives agreed, choosing social responsibility over grief.
