Varkala, Oct. 19 -- Booker Prize-winning Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka has said that travel writing holds immense possibilities as a genre, encompassing a wide spectrum of themes.

"Travel writing can be anything, it can be political, subjective and sometimes it reveals who the author really is rather than the destination," Karunatilaka said during an interactive session with Malayalam writer KR Meera at the three-day Yaanam Travel Literature Festival, which began here last evening.

Sabin Iqbal, the festival director and curator, moderated the inaugural session of India's first Travel Literature festival, organised by Kerala Tourism.
