Ch. Sambhajinagar, Jan. 19 -- The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court has quashed a first information report and criminal proceedings for abetment of suicide registered against a young nursing student from Beed, holding that a mere love affair or refusal to marry does not constitute instigation to suicide in the absence of any specific overt act or guilty intent.

The ruling was delivered by Justice S. G. Chapalgaonkar recently, while allowing Criminal Application No. 2475 of 2025 filed by the applicant, Aarti Suresh Sonavane, under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
