Buenos Aires, Aug. 21 -- The La Paz environmental court has suspended parliamentary consideration of Bolivia's lithium mining contracts with Russia and China, the country's ombudsman's office said.
"The La Paz court has temporarily suspended consideration of bills related to lithium mining," the statement said.
The court's ruling, adopted after an appeal by the ombudsman, will remain in effect until administrative bodies comply with requirements related to the protection of water resources and the environment, as well as until they consult with indigenous peoples living in the region where the mining is to be conducted.
