Dhaka, Dec. 15 -- In a further surge in Bangladesh's growing anti-India hatred, a leader from the BNP has claimed that the mass killings of Bengali intellectuals in 1971 were not carried out by the Pakistani forces, but by the forces of "a neighbouring country," in a not-so-subtle reference to India.
The remarks, made by Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Advocate Abu Al Yousuf Khan Tipu, member secretary of the party's Narayanganj city unit, at a discussion organised by the district administration on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day on Sunday, have sparked much criticism, with the BNP distancing itself from the statement.
