Bagalkot, March 28 -- A political flashpoint has emerged ahead of the bypoll as former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai accused the Congress-led Karnataka government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of "fiscal deception" and underfunding key infrastructure commitments, triggering a wider debate on economic governance.

Addressing a press conference in Bagalkot, Bommai alleged that the government had projected an annual allocation of Rs 18,000 crore for the Krishna Upper Stage project but had provided only Rs 3,000 crore in the state budget.
