Solapur, Jan. 16 -- The results of the Solapur Municipal Corporation elections are out, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieving a clear majority.

The municipal elections, especially in ward 2, gained statewide attention after the murder of MNS youth leader Balasaheb Sarvade, with the accused, Shalan Shinde, contesting as a BJP candidate.

BJP candidates however won all seats in Ward 2, including that contested by Shinde. Among other winners was Kiran Deshmukh who defeatied his Shiv Sena rival Ganesh Kulkarni by a margin of 11,000 votes. Despite the ongoing murder case, the results indicate that the tragic incident had little emotional impact on voters in the ward.
