Mumbai, Jan. 16 -- Early trends from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections indicate a strong lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance, which appears poised to sweep the city.
According to initial trends, the BJP is leading on 57 seats, while its ally, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), is ahead on 20 seats.
Other parties are also showing early leads, with Shiv Sena (UBT) ahead on 51 seats, the Congress leading on 9 seats, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on 7 seats, and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) currently leading on 1 seat.
The counting of votes is underway across all 23 designated centres in Mumbai. Officials said the final outcome is expected to be declared by this evening.
