Moradabad, July 30 -- A 25-year-old fruit trader, Chetan Saini, died after his shop was demolished during an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the administration in Majhola Mandi, Moradabad.
Saini's elder brother Gajendra Singh is the zonal vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The drive was carried out yesterday following a recent incident involving the Mandi Committee. Over 100 temporary structures and shops were removed during the operation. Some traders protested the action, but the demolition proceeded under tight police security.
According to officials, the action was part of a scheduled campaign to clear illegal encroachments in the market area.
