Tumkur/Vijayanagar, May 3 -- A fierce political confrontation erupted in Karnataka on Sunday over the controversial recounting in the Sringeri Assembly Constituency, with the BJP and Congress accusing each other of electoral malpractice, ballot tampering, and subversion of the democratic process.

Karnataka BJP president Vijayendra Yediyurappa claimed that former BJP MLA DN Jeevaraj had emerged victorious after recounting, while Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar alleged a "great crime" had been committed by BJP leaders and officials through post-poll manipulation of ballot papers.

Addressing reporters in Tumkur, Vijayendra said the recount had vindicated the BJP's long-standing allegations regarding the election outcome in Sringeri.
