Bhubaneswar, Feb. 14 -- The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has urged Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to convene the State Cabinet and pass a formal resolution urging the Centre to grant Special Category Status (SCS) to the state.

The demand, long championed by the regional party, has resurfaced ahead of the Budget session, intensifying political debate in Odisha.

Addressing the media in Bhubaneswar, BJD national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra said the issue of Special Category Status has remained a critical concern for Odisha for over a decade.

He recalled that under former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the BJD government had consistently pressed for SCS since 2012.
