Patna, Feb. 6 -- Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar today directed the government to review the procurement of maize from farmers during the current marketing season.

Intervening into the reply of the Food and Consumer Protection Minister Lesi Singh to a short-notice question of MLA Khurshid Alam regarding the minimum support price (MSP) and procurement of maize, Kumar called for reviewing the system of maize procurement and the suggestions made by the members and determine a fresh framework if required.

Through his question Alam said that paddy and wheat are procured at MSP through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in all 38 districts of the state, but maize does not have an effective MSP-backed procurement mechanism. Due to th...
