Kolkata, Jan. 20 -- The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Rajganj, Prashanta Barman, was on Tuesday removed from his post within 24 hours of the Supreme Court directing him to surrender in connection with the abduction and murder of gold trader Swapan Kamilya.
The joint BDO of Raniganj block Sourav kanti Mondal has been appointed in place of Burman.
The newly appointed BDO Sourav kanti Mondal was felicitated by local MLA Khageswar Roy.
"Several development projects had remained pending for long and I hope the situation would improve," Roy told the media.
The incident dates back to October 29 last year, when the body of gold trader Swapan Kamilya was recovered from Yatragachhi in New Town on the city's north east fringes.
