Kolkata, Dec. 23 -- A sub-divisional court sentenced all 13 persons convicted in the brutal murder of a father and son in West Bengal's Murshidabad district to life imprisonment on Tuesday, bringing closure to a case that had sparked statewide outrage earlier this year.

The victims, Hargobinda Das and his son Chandan Das, were killed in Shamsherganj on April 12 amid unrest during protests against the amended Waqf Act.

The violence had spread across several parts of Murshidabad, including Shamsherganj, Suti and Dhulian. While the incident initially triggered political controversy, the police consistently maintained that the murders were the result of personal enmity and not politically motivated.
