Beed, July 7 -- A special MCOCA court in the district has reserved its verdict till July 22 on a discharge application of Walmik Karad, the prime accused in the high-profile murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam confirmed this today.

Karad has filed the discharge plea in April under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, contending insufficient primary evidence that links him to the crime.

SPP Nikam presented counterarguments before the court, submitting investigative evidence gathered by police against the accused.

Concurrently, the prosecution seeks authorisation to seize properties belonging to the accused, with Assistant Prosecutor Balasaheb Kolhe arguing the motion.
