Kolkata, Jan. 23 -- Renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Ashwini Despande pointed out that the journey from training to performance is frequently shaped by factors beyond an artist's control, making chance a crucial element in a performer's career.
Addressing the gathering at the Kolkata Literary Meet 2026, Deshpande observed that while rigorous riyaaz and discipline are indispensable, they do not alone determine who eventually reaches the stage. "Becoming a performer is a very chance thing," she said, underlining on the uneven pathways artists navigate.
