Godda, March 2 -- An attempt to rob a Bank of India branch in Mahagama subdivision of Jharkhand's Godda district was foiled on Monday after armed miscreants opened fire on a security guard, injuring him in the shoulder.

According to police sources, three helmeted assailants arrived on two NS125 motorcycles and tried to enter the Bank of India branch at Kanchua Chowk under Mahagama subdivision.

The on-duty security guard, 50-year-old Vinod Kumar, asked one of the suspects to remove his helmet before entering the premises. When he refused, an altercation broke out between the guard and the assailants.
