Dhaka, April 19 -- Bangladesh's student-led political party, National Citizen Party (NCP), headed by well-known protest leader Nahid Islam, has asked for "foundational reforms" of the country's existing political structure.
The NCP, formed in February this year by the Students Against Discrimination and the Jatiyo Nagorik Committee, said the country needs a "July Charter" to meet the vision of the country's "July Uprising" in order to prevent any kind of authoritarian regime from coming to power.
"By 'reform', NCP means foundational reforms that would bring substantial qualitative changes to the state structure," said NCP convenor Islam, who previously served as an advisor in the army-backed Interim Government headed by Mohd Yunus.
