Ranchi, Jan. 29 -- Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Rakesh Sinha on Thursday launched a sharp counterattack against Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi over his criticism of the Congress party, stating that the present challenges faced by the state are the direct outcome of the policies initiated during Marandi's tenure as chief minister.

He alleged in a statement that the seeds sown by Marandi during his rule were later nurtured by subsequent BJP chief ministers, eventually taking the form of a "Banyan tree" that pushed the state to the brink of ruin for nearly 17 years.
