Mumbai, May 23 -- Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav-Patil on Thursday directed officials that the damage to crops in the ongoing unseasonal rains in Maharashtra should be immediately assessed.

Jadhav-Patil said the state government is sensitive towards farmers who have suffered losses due to natural disasters. "Unseasonal rains in April and May have damaged crops and farmers should get immediate assistance," he told officials.

"A crop damage assessment should be done immediately. Revenue and agriculture departments should form teams to conduct the assessment and complete the process expeditiously," said the minister.
