Guwahati, Nov. 24 -- Initiating a major land reform, the BJP-led government in Assam has decided to amend the Ceiling Act to give land ownership of labour lines to the tea garden labourers.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said this today after a cabinet meeting and informed that the cabinet has approved the proposal to grant land ownership of tea garden labour lines to the labourers.
"Through the amendment of the Ceiling Act, the government will acquire the rights of lands in labour lines of the tea gardens. The land rights thus acquired will be given to the tea garden labourers," he said.
