Varanasi, March 13 -- : A significant new fact regarding the historical importance of Sarnath, located in Varanasi, has come to light, overturning previous claims.

Based on new research and evidence, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has officially acknowledged that the historical significance of Sarnath was not discovered by a British official, but rather through excavations commissioned by Babu Jagat Singh-a member of a royal lineage and a local landlord.

This historical correction was announced by Pradeep Narayan Singh, a descendant of Babu Jagat Singh and a representative of the royal family. Concurrently, necessary amendments have also been made to the plaques installed within the Sarnath complex.
