Kolkata, Feb. 2 -- Ten persons were arrested on Monday in connection with the violence that gripped a part of South Kolkata as a group of armed miscreants allegedly opened fire and hurled crude bombs besides vandalising a police jeep, barely a stone's throw from the Rabindra Sarobar police station.

The incident occurred around 8.30 pm on Sunday on Kankulia Road near Golpark, triggering chaos and panic in the busy residential area. According to local residents, the violence was allegedly carried out by a gang led by a known criminal, identified as Sona Pappu.

On receiving information, police rushed to the spot. However, the miscreants allegedly vandalised a police vehicle during the rampage.
