Agartala, March 14 -- A 65-year-old man named Monir Mia allegedly died while in police custody in Kailashahar police station, causing tension in the Deorachhara area under the Gournagar block of Tripura's Unakoti district. Monir Mia, a resident of Ward No. 3 of Deorachhara ADC Village and a daily wage labourer, had a non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him for allegedly failing to provide maintenance to his divorced wife.
The police from Kailashahar police station arrested Monir Mia from his residence around 2 AM on Thursday night and brought him to the station. Family members of the deceased claimed that the police personnel were intoxicated at the time of the arrest and behaved abusively with Monir Mia and his family.
