Chandigarh, May 12 -- In a move aimed at preserving the religious character of the holy city, the Amritsar district administration has reimposed restrictions on the sale and use of liquor, meat, tobacco products, and other intoxicants within the walled city area.
The fresh orders have been issued by Amritsar District Magistrate Dalwinderjit Singh under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. Officials said the restrictions are intended to maintain the spiritual atmosphere and traditional sanctity associated with key Sikh religious centers in Punjab.
