Srinagar, Jan. 23 -- Large parts of the Kashmir Valley were plunged into darkness following strong winds and snowfall that severely damaged the power infrastructure, resulting in a near-total electricity breakdown across the region.
J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the Valley, which normally receives around 1,700 megawatts of electricity daily, was supplied with only about 100 megawatts on Friday morning due to widespread damage to transmission lines and power systems caused by the severe weather conditions.
"Our entire system was affected by strong winds" the Chief Minister told media in Srinagar, adding that the scale of damage could be gauged from the drastic fall in power supply.
