Prayagraj, March 28 -- A single bench of the Allahabad High Court on Saturday ruled that without taking divorce, a live-in relationship is illegal by a married person, contradicting a division bench order yesterday that there is no criminal offence if a married person stays in a live-in relationship.
The High Court today ruled that any individual who is already married - and whose spouse is still alive - cannot legally enter into a live-in relationship with a third person without first obtaining a divorce from their existing spouse.
The court stated that such individuals must first obtain a decree of divorce from a competent court.
