Ranchi, April 3 -- The All Jharkhand Students union (AJSU) Party on Friday demanded strict action in connection with the alleged assault and public humiliation of a tribal woman in Ranchi.

In a statement, AJSU central general secretary and spokesperson Sanjay Mehta termed the incident "serious" and called for a fair investigation and stringent action against those responsible.

The incident was reported from the Kokar area under Sadar police station limits, where the woman was allegedly assaulted and paraded by some persons over suspicion of theft, according to the party.

Mehta alleged that the woman was confined for several days, physically harassed and publicly humiliated, and said such acts were unacceptable in a civil society.
