Pune, Dec. 13 -- Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has stated that government officials were expected to verify documents during the Mundhwa land transaction and take appropriate action after noticing discrepancies.

Had officials acted in time, the controversy could have been avoided, Pawar said on Saturday.

His remarks indicate that he has placed responsibility for the Pune land deal controversy on the concerned officials.

Meanwhile, the state legislature has recently passed a Bill mandating that complaints related to stamp duty be first heard by the Revenue Minister before approaching the High Court.
