Mumbai, Feb. 2 -- Speculation over a possible merger of the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party has deepened following the death of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, with senior leaders from the Ajit Pawar-led group on Monday categorically denying any talks on unification.
Responding to claims made by some leaders of the Sharad Pawar faction, senior NCP leaders Chhagan Bhujbal and state party president Sunil Tatkare said Ajit Pawar had never held any discussions with them regarding a merger of the two factions.
Leaders from the Sharad Pawar group have, however, claimed that Ajit Pawar had met Sharad Pawar, Jayant Patil, and Amol Kolhe to discuss a possible reunification of the party.
