Palamu, March 9 -- Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Jharkhand has begun using Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technology for real-time monitoring of forest fires and elephant movement, becoming the second tiger reserve in the country after Simlipal in Odisha to adopt such a system.

AI-enabled cameras have been installed in areas such as Barwadih, Chhipadohar and Betla. Initially, the system will operate in the buffer zone of the reserve and will later be expanded across the entire forest area.

PTR Deputy Director Prajeshkant Jena said the technology would help detect forest fires quickly and generate real-time alerts for forest officials as well as nearby villages. He said the system would reduce dependence on satellite-based alerts, whic...
