Lucknow, March 18 -- After nearly four years of having only acting police chiefs, Uttar Pradesh is finally set to appoint a permanent Director General of Police (DGP), with Rajeev Krishna emerging as the frontrunner for the post.
The move comes after the state government formally sent a panel of eligible IPS officers to the union Public Service Commission (UPSC), in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India. As per the established norms, the UPSC will shortlist three senior-most eligible officers from the panel and send the names back to the state, which will then make the final selection.
At present, Renuka Mishra (1990 batch) tops the seniority list, followed by 1991-batch officers Alok Sharma and Piyush Anand. Raj...
