Mumbai, March 21 -- Social activist Anjali Damania has demanded that the post of Chairperson of the State Women's Commission should no longer be given to political figures, but instead to retired IPS officers or judges.

She stated that only then can women in the state receive true justice.

Her remarks come in the wake of criticism surrounding the case of self-styled godman Captain Ashok Kharat.

Following the controversy, former State Women's Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar submitted her resignation to Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.

Damania, however, criticized Chakankar's demeanor during her resignation, alleging that it appeared more like that of a model rather than a public official stepping down from responsibility.
