Chennai, May 22 -- About 7.85 lakh birds belonging to 798 species
were counted in Wetland and Terrestrial Bird census in Tamil Nadu, the
Forest Department announced on Thursday.
It was conducted as part of the annual Synchronized Birds Census 2025
across various locations.
A release from the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests
and Chief Wildlife Warden said Wetland birds census was conducted
in 934 locations and 5,52,349 birds belonging to 397 bird species were
counted in the estimation.
Out of this, 1,13,606 birds were migratory birds and 49 per cent of the
birds counted were from coastal districts.
