Aadi Thiruvaadhirai fest to mark 100th birth anniv of Chola King begins at Gangaikonda Cholapuram, PM Modi to attend on July 27

Chennai, July 23 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Aadi Thiruvaathirai festival at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Aiyalur district of Tamil Nadu on July 27

The five-day festival marking the1000th birth anniversary of Tamil King Rajendra Chola-1. began this evening.

King Rajendra Chola-1 established the city of Gangaikonda Cholapuram and constructed the Lord Brihadisvara Temple (a replica of Thanjavur Big Temple), in Ariyalur district.

King Rajendra Chola built the temple which was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

The birth anniversary of Rajendra-I, son of emperor Raja Raja Chola, falls on the star Thiruvaathirai in the Tamil month of Aadi and it is celebrated at the Brihadeeswara temple in Gangaikonda ...
