Shimla, Dec. 26 -- The illegal felling of valuable green Deodar trees has been detected in a dense forest near Riyuni, around five kilometres from the Chopal Forest headquarter in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh.
Divisional Forest Officer Chopal, Jangvir Singh Dulta, said that eight green deodar trees had been felled and approximately 30 sleepers were made from them.
Eight deodar trees were cut down reportedly on Wednesday night in dense Deodar forest beat of Chopal and nearly 30 sleepers prepared from the felled trees were recovered from the spot. The culprits managed to escape under the cover of darkness when a police patrol team reached the area.
