Aizawl, Oct. 14 -- Mizoram has witnessed a troubling surge in traffic accidents this year, with70 fatalities recorded across 81 major mishaps between January and September, according to state police officials.

Of the 81 accidents, 62 were fatal, leaving 24 individuals seriously injured and another 14 with minor injuries.

March saw the highest number of accidents, with 16 incidents reported, while June recorded the fewest, with just four accidents.

The majority of the accidents were attributed to driver negligence, with factors like drunken driving and mechanical defects contributing to 10% each of the total accidents.
