Shillong, Feb. 17 -- Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home, Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said 658 Bangladeshi nationals have been detected and prosecuted in the state since 2021, with 194 deported after completing their sentences.
He said the government has established a "comprehensive and multi-layered anti-infiltration mechanism" to tackle illegal migration.
Replying to a call-attention notice moved by opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator Heaving Stone Kharpran in the assembly, the Deputy Chief Minister said, 18 anti-infiltration check posts, gates and a land customs station are now operational along strategic points on the inter-state and India-Bangladesh border.
