Bagalkot, Feb. 13 -- Thirty-four migrant labourers from Odisha, who were allegedly trafficked and held captive at a brick kiln in Karnataka's Ilakal taluk, were rescued following a complaint to the district administration, officials said on Friday.

The rescue operation was carried out at a brick kiln in Sankalapur village, about 50 km from the Bagalkot district headquarters, after authorities received information that several individuals were confined and forced to work under bonded conditions.

With this operation, the total number of bonded labourers rescued in Bagalkot district over the past three months has risen to 99, according to official sources.
