Pune, Feb. 12 -- The Maharashtra government has decided to exclude 23 villages from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The decision is expected to clear long-pending hurdles in infrastructure development and ensure better civic amenities for thousands of residents in these areas.
The PMRDA was set up in March 2015 to oversee planned development in the rapidly expanding areas surrounding Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations. It was tasked with serving as a special planning authority for villages located on the periphery of these municipal limits following growing urbanisation and pressure on local civic bodies.
