Ranchi, Jan. 26 -- State Election Commissioner Alka Tiwari on Sunday said that voters are the foundation of democracy and an informed and vigilant voter is essential for strengthening democratic institutions. She was addressing the state-level programme of the 16th National Voters' Day 2026 held at Aryabhatta Auditorium.
Extending greetings to the people of Jharkhand, Tiwari said the Election Commission of India was established on January 25, 1950, and National Voters' Day has been celebrated annually since 2011 to promote voter awareness. She said the theme for National Voters' Day 2026 is "My India, My Vote" with the tagline "Indian Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy".
