Chandrapur, Feb. 13 -- Nineteen students from a Zilla Parishad school in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district were admitted to hospital after reportedly consuming an excessive quantity of iron tablets meant for anaemia prevention, officials said on Friday.
The incident occurred in Bhamdeli village of Bhadravati tehsil.
Authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the episode.
As part of a routine health programme, students at the school were administered iron tablets every Monday. However, preliminary information suggests that a few students consumed additional tablets the following day in the absence of teachers.
