Kolkata, April 30 -- At least 14 people died in a devastating fire that broke out in a hotel near Falpatti Machhua in central Kolkata's Burrabazar, police said on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is currently in Digha for the inauguration of the newly constructed Jagannath temple, called up Mayor Firhad Hakim and the Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma on Wednesday and enquired about the devastating fire.
Sources said the CM has directed Hakim and Verma to be present at the site to personally oversee the rescue operation.
