1 million acres of farmland submerged due to heavy rains: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
Mumbai, Aug. 19 -- Amid the ongoing torrential rains across Maharashtra, nearly 10 lakh (1 million) acres of farmland have gone under water said Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar today. He said immediate surveys and compensation assessments (panchanamas) will be conducted.
Large parts of the state are witnessing relentless downpours, resulting in loss of lives, cattle being swept away, and damage to homes and shops. Agriculture has suffered extensive destruction. Pawar said that he is monitoring the situation from the war room, adding that modern technology is enabling real-time updates on rainfall and damages.
