Shimla, May 6 -- A total of 1,147 candidates are contesting the May 17 elections to 51 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Himachal Pradesh following the completion of scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers.
State Election Commission Secretary, Surjeet Rathore said on Wednesday that a total of 1,426 nomination papers were filed across the state, of which 32 were rejected during scrutiny.
As many as 1,394 nominations were found valid, while 237 candidates withdrew, leaving 1,147 candidates in the contest, he informed.
Election symbols were allotted on Wednesday, following scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers.
The elections were notified on April 21, 2026.
